Most swarms travel only a short distance at first and land on a tree branch, fence or structure of some sort then gather into a tight cluster around the queen. They will remain there while scout bees search for a permanent home.
This temporary resting place is called a swarm cluster.
From the outside, it may look intimidating but this is actually one of the calmest states bees can be in.
Are Swarming Bees Dangerous?

Swarming bees are usually not aggressive.

When scouts find promising locations, they return to the cluster and perform a waggle dance to communicate what they’ve found.
Multiple scouts may propose different locations.
Over time, the colony reaches a consensus.
When the decision is made, the entire swarm lifts off again and they fly together to their new home.
It’s one of the most sophisticated decision-making processes found in nature.
All without a single leader giving orders.

In urban and suburban areas, swarms often settle in places that aren’t ideal such as fences, eaves, sheds, or inside walls.
That’s where responsible beekeeping comes in.
Relocating swarms:

Most swarms can be safely relocated and given a new start in managed hives where they can thrive.
